I have been trying to learn how to incorporate coconut oil into my dishes. I found this cookbook and decided to get it. I found it very interesting because it includes recipes using different parts of the coconut fruit. As a child I used to love drinking and eating coconut but since I moved to the United States, somehow I stop eating and drinking coconut. Now, I am excited to try coconut in new ways.

My finally thoughts are that this cookbook is not for everyone and not for everyday meals.

I was pleasantly surprise when I first received the physical book. The cover feels smooth and it is nice and sturdy. I really like the illustrations on the front and back covers. It makes me want to put it in a display. It is so beautiful and nice to look at it. The pages are easy to flip and they are of nice quality. They can get bend easily though I did not read it, immediately because I wanted to read it with my two cousins.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

They were so excited to read it with me when I showed it to them. Before we read them, I asked them to look at the cover page and try to tell me what they thought the story was going to be about. They had so much fun trying to create their own description of the story. The cover has so much details and depth that they did not struggle to come up with a possible story line. Then, I asked them to only look at each illustration in every page and tell me what they thought was happening. They were able to create their own story and it helped them pay attention to every little detail in each page. Finally, we read the book together and they loved it. My cousins are 11 and 6 years old. Since the story is written in a very unique style. For my younger cousin, it was a bit harder to understand. But I help her understand. I think that this is a nice book to read to your children. I can also be use for educational purposes and it understand their perception of things. I always enjoy listening to their stories and their ideas.

The illustrations are so amazing. I also love the style of the illustrations, they look like they has been painted on the page. Of course from the smooth and glossy finish of the pages, it is obvious that they were not. But I am still amazed by the way the artist, Irina Kovalova, use color, texture and placement to give life to this world. Even the side where the story is written has a very unique frame around it. The layout is stunning.

The story is very fascinating and complex. It has a beautiful and empowering message. The story is written is a very rhythmic style so although it is a bit hard for younger children, I find that it is entertaining for them to hear the story. 

The characters are so very memorable and relatable. The monsters looked scary and have a very sinister look but through the story my perspective of them changed. Even they had a touch of innocence and purity.

The story has a lot of elements that are very relatable to children. They can identify with Charlotte's fears, desires and confusion. They are also able to understand her relationship with her grandmother and her longing for her brother.

I am proud of Charlotte and her character is so amazing. She was not only able to find her brother, discover a new world, confront her past but also she discovers herself and much more.

 I have previously read two additional books on the same subject but unlike them, this book focus on the methods that a blogger can employ to generate money. For the most part, I was familiar with some of the strategies but I got to learn about a few new ones which is great. I will understand that most experience blogger probably would find some of the strategies common knowledge but this book is not target toward them. I am neither a beginner nor an expert in the blogging community. I am still learning and trying to establish and grow my blog.

Additionally, I liked that the author took his time to share some of his previous mistakes and that in every chapter he would include a short list of pros and cons about an specific strategy. It is really helpful and informative. He does not provide every little detail but enough to allow you to consider it as a possible strategy. As he mentions certain strategies, I made a list of them and I will be doing my own research. I appreciate that the books does a nice job to make sure you consider both the advantages and disadvantages before employing a new strategy. I am a strong believer of making inform decisions.

I also like the tone of the book, it informs the reader in a very friendly manner and it does it in very clear and concise way. I felt that a friend was advising me about career options. He also emphasizes the importance of quality and offering better content. No matter what strategy we choose, we need to remember to maintain the quality of our work and to not let dollar signs distract us from our goal and damage our integrity and the relationship we have with our readers.

If you are looking for ways to monetize your blog and are not sure where to start, I would advise tou to consider reading this small and compact book. It is really easy to read and it does not waste time repeating the same concepts. It is a nice summary of popular monetizing strategies and it is a good start. It might not be as helpful to experience bloggers because they are probably already using most of them in their blogs.

A Piece of Advice:

I asked myself the next question after i finish the book, "Is this information unique?". Meaning, can I get the same information somewhere else. The answer is "yes". If you do a regular search, many websites would probably have a list of top strategies. However, if I have learn one thing from doing research is that there are many ways to get information and the information can be find in different manners and mediums, but the key element that makes the information sustainable and irreplaceable is its source.

From the description, I could tell that the book is a guide for new bloggers. This is my first time learning about the author so I decided to visit her blog. She is a modern art blogger. When I visited her blog and read a few posts, I got so excited to hear (I got the Audible version) what she had to say. I am an art lover, I lack a lot of knowledge in the area but that never stops me from loving it and appreciating pieces of art.

It has a very professional approached and it will make you think about your writing style and the way you provide your information. It made me think a lot and I will be trying to improve my review system in order to provide better reviews. I will also work on my writing skills which I am aware that they are lacking. I would like my readers to not only get honest and important observations about a product or service but also to enjoy the way I present it. I do not want to confuse or lose visitor because I lack quality.

The book makes a very realistic and important statement about the importance of the early stages of starting a blog. The chapter on profitability is the last chapter and it is because the author believes that the key part of a successful blog relies mainly on the foundation of your blog, quality of your work and building a audience. Having a successful and profitable blog requires time and patience.

Another point the author made about audience made my smile. I knew that I will have to work hard before I can build a strong and large core group of visitors but it is still a bit discouraging when some of your post never get any visitors or only a few. The author motivated me and allow me to think positively. Even if I get only one visitor per post, I should be not be discourage and work hard, especially if the person continues to come and visit.

In the first chapter, the author shares a interesting activity to help new bloggers choose a blog name. After all, a blog name is part of your brand. I wish I thought about it when choosing a name for my blog. She ask you to write the first 5 title posts on your blog. Based on those titles you will be able to understand the type of information you will share and more about your writing style.

Additionally, he author makes a great emphasis about building your unique voice and creating a writing process the fits your style and personality. It advises you to write in a way that is engaging but easy to understand and to prevent imitating writing styles

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. There were a few things that I already knew but even so I found new areas that I can work on. I would recommend this book to beginners and even bloggers like me with a bit of experience. Hopefully I will be able to come up with my own unique review system, and writing style soon. I am going to try to include a bit more of my personality.

The narrator, Harry Roger Williams III, did a nice job at keeping me engage and it was a very pleasant and relaxing experience. The audio book length is 1 hr and 2 minutes. The organization of the book is very clear and easy to follow. It presents the information in a very straight forward and short manner. It does not repeat concepts to much and it follows nicely from chapter to chapter. Also, the organization is very practical because it allows you to refer back to a specific section.

The author did a great job at summarizing the most essential parts of a blogging career/business. He draw emphasis to areas of great benefit for your business. He provides the information but you must take action and design your business from the bottom. He is very clear from the beginning about your role and that a successful blog requires a lot of work and passion. 

This is not the type of book to tell you what to do or how to do it. It explains why you might consider using different approaches to make you blog be known. Such as using social media not only to promote your blog but also to create a solid brand. In Chapter 2, he explains the importance of self-promotion and its impact not only on the growth of your blog but also on creating new business opportunities for yourself. Most importantly, it helps you create a strong relationship with your readers and solidifies trust.  

We get a short introduction of passive income in chapter 1 and it is further explain in chapter 8. Unfortunately for me, only the name of concept name is new to me but the process or definition is not. It was nothing completely revolutionary, in my opinion. Passive income is basically the income received on a regular basis with little effort to produce it. I learned this concept as "unearned income"in the past. After you built a strong foundation and establish your blog and your brand, as time passes you will be able to receive income with less intervention from your part.

* Need: 3/5 (although it claims to be target to beginners and even experience bloggers, I believed that most older bloggers will not find this book so insightful)

ASIDE NOTE: After I listened to the audio book, I decided to visit the bloggers blog or blogs (He mentioned that he has blogs). I was unsuccessful and I could not find more information about him aside from the author information on Amazon.com. I am not going to lie, I felt very disappointed. Description:

The book, The Watchers: Knight of Light, written by Deirdra Eden tells the story of Auriella, an orphan who has loss everything and finds herself alone and afraid. After losing her parents in a horrible and devastating fire, she runs to the forest after being accused of being a witch since she was the only one who survive the fire. She leaves her village with more questions than answers. Soon after that nightmare, she encounter danger again. In the forest, she meets a wide range of creates and enchanting beings that will change her life forever.

 

Before Reading:

From the title and book cover, I expected a magical story that contained elements of bravery and courage. I read the description of the book but I still had no clear idea about what the story will be about and who is Auriella? But I figure, I would find out right along with her.

 

As I read:

Although we meet Auriella in the aftermath of the fire that killed her parents and her departure from her village, I found the first couple of chapters to be very low pace. I normally don't mind but my mind tends to wonder off if it is not intrigued and engage. I struggle a lot to stay focused and interested. Until we meet Cassi, a pixie who has been captured by the same witch that capture Aurilla. So far before Cassi, we have only met a few character so I was so happy, we got to meet a pixie. We witness the alliance of Cassi and Auriella in order to escape. Soon after we meet Rupert, a dwarf who unintentionally serves a great role in the escape of both prisoners. I was so touched with the fact that the story will finally move along and I would get the adventure that I wanted.


I loved how her new friends served a essential role in the development of the story and served as life guide for Auriella. They are such great friends. Cassi is adorable, funny and helpful. Rupert(aka my favorite character) is so wise, reliable and loyal. I definitely love and enjoy the interaction between the three friends.


After meeting some amazing friends, Auriella gets a taste of a family from a noble family. I was extremely happy for Auriella when she found the love of a mother that she has been so desperately wishing for since loss her parents. In the same house, she finds love. However, even thought I was so happy for her, I still knew that sooner or later she needed to face her reality.


The story continues with Auriella realization that her true identity is not something that she can continue to escape. She goes through harsh changes, loss, and hopelessness in her road to self-discovery.

Evaluation:

I am so glad I decided to read this book. I found it very inspirational. Although I struggle in some areas of the story because I wanted the story to move along. Also, I found Auriella continue denial very tiring. But I understood why she did it. She had lost so much already. She just wanted to protect the little bit of happiness she has found. Even thought I understood her, I knew that she could not run away for much longer. I felt so proud of her in the final chapters when she had finally come to accept her destiny and she took charge of it. She went from being a normal girl, an accused witch, a slave, a mercenary, a lady, a warrior, a knight, to a symbol of courage.


I found the language to be very engaging and powerful. I could read a couple of chapters in one sitting. If it weren't from other time demands, I could had read it in one go. Each character had a significant impact in my understanding of the story. Also, each character smoothly developed and grew as the story went on. Now that I have read it, I can say that I miss them a lot and I can't wait to read the sequel.


I found myself reflecting about my own humanity, desires, goals and destiny. The book in written from the perspective of Auriella so we have access to her inner thoughts. In the description of the book provided by the author which is also written in Auriella perspective, she says, "Even though we all feel human at times, we must remember, we are not them, we are their watchers". While I witness Auriella's struggle to accept her Truth and her struggle with loneliness and lost, this line kept appearing in my head. She is a watcher or guardian of Earth from evil, but she still has similar experiences of a human.


Although I was feeling uninterested in the first couple of chapters because I thought I was not getting the sense of adventure that I hoped. I now realized that I got a new kind of adventure. It is not the typical heroine story. I now appreciate that Auriella showed human emotions and desires that she could barely control. She needed to understand her humanity and herself before confronting her fears and her own destiny. She really surprise me and I felt a sense of joy, relief, and sadness as I got closer to the end.


I find this book to be perfect for children, young adults and adults. Both males and females because it has a little bit of everything. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and continue reading its sequels. I can't wait to read about Auriella's new found goal, and her friends.

This is the second book I read about business opportunities. However, unlike the previous book I review on this blog, this book contains valuable information about using new ways to not only earn extra revenue( increase your revenue) but also for ways to improve your business using the internet. Once I establish my business, I understand that it is important to consider new ways to increase my earnings and at the same time increase my customer base. This book covers this need in great detail.


It claims to provide important insights about different web-based opportunities to increase your income, promote you business and enhance your brand recognition. It contains seven chapters discussing different areas of profitability potential for yourself and your business. I decided to share some of my thoughts and/observations about some of the chapters.



Chapter 1: Blogging*


I have a blog, so I thought I understood the importance of it and the potential. However, as I was reading this chapter, I thought, "wow! How did I not make the connection? Why didn't I think of that?". It really explains a blog can increase the visibility of your business even if you have a professional website for your business. This is a must read chapter, and one of my favorites.


Chapter 2: Freelance*


One of the main terms that I took from this chapter is "Cross Promotion". It explains how different freelance opportunities do not only can increase your earnings but also provide ways to promote your business.


Chapter 3: Selling and reselling*


This chapter builds on the idea of cross promotion and complementary strategies that can help you achieve additional income and brand recognition.




This are just a few chapters but I don't want to spoiled every insight included in the book for you. Other areas covered in the book include Online tutorials, Using Etsy, Fiverr and tutoring. I like the writing style and the organization of the book. While you get easily open the book at any chapter and read it individually with no particular order. I really liked that as I was reading each chapter the next would build on the previous and make reference to the general ideas and theme of the book. I made it easy to read and comprehend the material.


Another area to highlight is that I really appreciated that a couple of the chapter include a small section explaining and giving us tips about how to value our digital product. It is nice and helpful to know in which occasions it is acceptable to charge a certain amount for your service or product.


Overall, I am really pleased with the information provided and I am glad that I decided to read it. I learned about some new platforms to make money and new strategies about money making and promotion. Also, while the author mainly makes reference to the home building industry that ideas and strategies included in this chapter can be applied to other industries.

I am a creator of things. I find such a joy when I create something new and I love to share my creations. In the most recent years, due to the high popularity of DIYs and other crafty projects, sharing your love for creativity and crafting is easier. Also, new opportunities have been open in the business side of it. A little while back, I consider creating a side project for additional income. I just finished reading, Ian Leaf's Starting a HFC Business at Home, and although it is mainly focused on the High Fashion industry, a substantial amount of information can be apply to other industries. This is a quick read and it has been written in a matter that it provide you with the necessary insights to get you started and be able to visualize your business opportunities. I am very please with the writing style and overall organization of the book. The content is very easy to follow and understand.




The chapters ranged from the basics to more less talk about problems such as scams. More than being a guide that you need to follow, this book defines, explains and provides information that can help you prepare or deal with problems in the future. It is fair to say that it is not the only book you will need to start your at home business but it contains essential information that can give a strong foundation.





One of my favorite chapters include the city regulations, government taxation, and especially the last chapter on avoiding scams. This is a very important aspect of the fashion world that is unfortunately not going anywhere. Even small business can be negatively affected to it is something to consider as a business owner.




Overall, I found this book engaging and very informative. It allow me to visualize my business and highlighted many areas of the industry that I did not know. I will now be able to design my business with more confidence and also now that I have a better idea on about what I need to research next.
